Q: Buying a used Apple Cinema display

Hello,

I guess you can call me an Apple enthusiast. I bought a Macbook Air last year year after using PCs since 1994. I've also purchased the iPad Mini 2 and the iPhone 6s within the last year. These products enrich and improve my life.

I am looking into options for an external monitor. I had a Samsung Syncmaster I used with my PCs for nearly 10 year.  It is 19 inches, Standard dimensions (remember those?). It still works fine.

I am looking for a 23 or 24 inch Widescreen now.

As I understand, Apple discontinued the Cinema in 2011 or so. I generally do not consider used electronics, but I figure if I can find one in very good condition, it may be a good investment. And honestly, one of the draws of this particular display is aesthetics... is the best looking display I've been. I am wondering if anyone has any advice here (where to find a good Apple Cinema display, what to look for/to avoid, etc.) I am also open to suggestions for a non-Apple display to connect to my MacBook Air if I decide to go down the route of buying a new monitor. (And no, I cannot afford/do not need the 27inch Thunderbolt.) I am a writer, so I do not need support for heavy duty graphics or gaming.)

Thanks for any input.

As I understand, Apple discontinued the Cinema in 2011 or so.

Actually 23" Cinema displays were removed from sale in Nov 2008 and the LED 24" Cinema displays were removed from sale in mid-2010.

There are so many good economical monitors on the market. I would recommend getting one that has a Displayport input (a computer connection), in lieu of just HDMI (a HDTV connection).

Go to an electronics store near you and check out all of the monitor options.
