Q: OS X 10.11 Will Not Update
I'm looking for some help. I've combed every discussion board and can find and tried everything suggested.
I am running OS X 10.11 El Capitan (however, the problem goes back to OS X 10.10). When an update to the operating system is available in the App Store and I click on "Update All" or "Update" next to the individual components (such as "HP Printer Software Update 3.1" or "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 6.18") the progress bar pops up and the message underneath reads "Installing -- Calculating..." and then a few seconds later it disappears and nothing happened.
I have tried the following (and some other stuff that I don't recall. This problem goes back nearly a year!):
-I verified and repaired permissions on my HDD
-I have tried installing while logged into the admin account
-I tried installing after a safe boot
-I have downloaded the update and update combo files from the Apple web site and tried manually installing the updates. (in that case the updater starts, verifies the file, restarts the computer, but after the re-boot nothing is updated. My version, as reported in "About this Mac" is still the same--10.11) I have tried this with both the 10.11.1 and 10.11.2 updates.
I'm willing to retry any of the above based on reasonable advice. Thank you in advance!
The machine with the problem is: Mac mini (late 2012), 16 GB RAM
Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11), 16 GB RAM; 1 TB HDD

Above is the path to the folder that needs to be removed.
The folder is normally hidden, so you may not see it.
In Finder use the Go To Folder item under Go and type in private/var/folders in the text box
and from there navigate to zz and then the folder zyxvp........ ending in 68, control-click and then Move To Trash, don't delete
you could also drag it to the desktop before for extra safety.
Restart the Mac and relaunch the App Store and see if you are able to download now. The folder and files within it are regenerated on Restart.
If you are happy you can then empty the Trash and delete the one on the desktop if you did that.
