Q: 3,844 Duplicate Photos
Hello!
"Duplicate Detective" software tells me I have 3,844 duplicate photos and personal videos on my hard drive.
Half are buried in a /Photos Library/ subdirectory and the other half are in an /iPhoto Library/ subdirectory.
Cannot figure out which duplicate to delete . . . if any.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Did you migrate your iPhoto Library to the new photos for Mac application?
Then you may have image files that look like duplicates, but are sharing the same blocks on your hard drive using hard links. The hard linked files in the iPhoto Library and the Photos Library are identical but are ot using twice the storage because they are sharing the storage. Deleting one of them will not free any storage as ong as the other exists- see this link: Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
