Cannot connect w/ Canon Pixma MX860 printer now that I have ElCapitan. Need to print today...any suggestions?

Just upgraded to El Capitan and now cannot connect with Canon PIxma 860 and not financially able to buy a new printer...any suggested workarounds? Canon says not compatible with El Capitan. Do I need to downgrade to Yosemite? Thanks.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

  • Try to install the Canon MX860 Printer Driver
  • From the Apple menu choose System Preferences. From the View menu choose Printers & Scanners. If the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the System Preferences window is locked, click it and enter an administrator name and password to unlock it.Click the Add printer icon at the bottom of the Printers pane to open the Add Printer window. If the printer does not appear with the Default icon selected, click the IP button on the toolbar. Click the Address field and enter the IP address of your printer. If your Mac is able to communicate with the printer, but it is not able to automatically determine the print driver needed, choose the option "Select Printer Software…" from the Print Using pop-up menu in the Add Printer window. Enter your printer model in the search field to find the appropriate driver.
