ipod 5th generation going crazy

Hi my daughters I pod 5th generation is having a mental break down I have tried full reboot wiping it registering it as a new ipod and restoring it. I think she may have dropped it as there are a few faint lines down the screen but it has a mind of its own you cannot type anything, it opens random things its crazy. Is there anything I can do please? she hadn't had it long but brand new and now im upset for her that it wont work she just cannot use it and its out of warranty.
