Time Machine On/Off Button grayed out

Recently purchased a used Imac that had been used in a corporate setting. For some reason I find that I cannot do automatic Time Machine backups.

I can select a backup disk and run manual backups but the TIme Machine On/Off button is grayed out. I suspect that in its past location it was being backed up to a corporate server and that there is some plist somewhere that blocks any other backup with Time Machine. Does anyone have any insight as to what might be the cause and solution. Running El Capitan (but had the same problem with Mavericks) Thanks!

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

I believe I am Admin Account. Rights and privileges set to read and write. Here's what the plist reads like excluding some extraneous stuff:

Hmmmm, only way I could replicate the ON/OFF being grayed out & still do Backup Now, is if the TM Pref Pane itself was locked!?

User uploaded file

I wonder if it's this file?

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

You have really been helpful BD but this is a tough one. I have unlocked the panel but no change. Logged in as another admin and no change.

In fact when I log in to a new account the company logo (from the company that I got the iMac from is emblazoned on the screen. Obviously they had some remote access to the computer, probably for backups, security, email etc. and they changed a bunch of preferences to dictate certain default behaviors. I found some preference files that had been duplicated and marked like .plist~original so that they could be restored. But there could be tons of these and I am technically savvy enough to fix them all. All in all the machine is running great and doing everything except auto backup. I probably should just leave it alone.

Thanks for all your help.

OK, good luck, but I wonder if maybe it is running OSX Sever itself?

Maybe these?

Maybe it's the LaunchDeamon???

I actually find 4 that could be it...

com.apple.backupd-wake.plist
