Security on my network requires that MAC address of device must be entered on router or I cannot connect to internet. Do nor use a password based security setup. How do I find MAC address prior to setting up Apple TV?

Settings > General > About, depending on which network interface you are using you want either the WiFi Address or the Ethernet Address.
In the old days of Apple TV they printed the address on the box so you could add it to the restricted access list on your network before setting up the Apple TV. It was nice because you could take advantage of the automated setup. Now you need to bypass the network setup to find the address in the settings and then manually setup the network. Sloppy.

Thanks, but the point is that without connecting to internet (which requires MAC ADDRESS) there is no way to proceed to Settings. Apple did not think about or provide for MAC ADDRESS FILTERING when they decided to no longer put the MAC ADDRESS on the new version of APPLE TV. Talked to tech support today, they said to take it back to Apple Store and have them retrieve the MAC ADDRESS on their open network.
Use the hotspot feature on your phone for setup, take to a friends/families house temporarily...

I suspect you should still have access to settings and home sharing without an internet connection, you did on the previous versions.
What would be Apple like if they don't print it on the box, would be for it to display on screen during setup when connecting to the network so you could add it to the router then proceed to log in.
Thanks. Protodd, I am not trying to complain, I appreciated all the comments. MY PROBLEM IS NOW RESOLVED. I took it to the Apple Store in Greensboro. Without a Genius Bar appointment (they were booked solid), they took my Apple TV in the back room, completed the set up on their open network and came out 15 minutes later with my MAC ADDRESS on a post it note. Great service. Just not sure why they stopped putting the MAC ADDRESS on the cartons.
My ATV4 is working, so I don't want to give it a factory reset for testing. Hence my question:
What does an ATV4 have to have to finish its initial setup?
Is it enough to have it connected to a local network (a link to a switch or wifi device)?
Does it have to have an IP address?
Does it have to have an Internet connection?

I'm not keen on fiddling with mine either. I can't say for sure about the Apple TV 4 (hence why I only 'suspect') but the Apple TV 2 and 3 could work around this.
1) Select Manual setup
2) You are shown a list of available wifi networks along with the wifi address (MAC Address) to the right (below the wifi symbol)
