Q: How can I downgrade 10.11.2 back to 10.10.5 without a backup?

Hello all,

Happy Holidays. My Problem is EL Capitan 10.11.2. I upgraded from Yosemite 10.10.5 and without Thinking I didn’t Backup manually before the 10.11.2 Upgrade! Is there anyone who knows how I can downgrade back to Yosemite 10.10.5 without losing everything. I know after the upgrade I had to update Pages and Numbers and Office 2011 ,but I’m fairly sure the Office Updates were just Microsoft Releases and not tied into the update. I know the other Mac Programs had to be updated to become compatible with EL Capitan 10.11.2 so I guess they will all have to be downgraded also? Any and All Help or Idea’s will be Greatly Appreciated !! EL Capitan isn’t for me ,it sounded good but Safari Pages don’t load until 2 or 3 refreshes! Programs Scroll up and down in open windows say like in Applications or Documents and I have to wait 15 to 20 seconds for this to stop (It does it on it’s own ,without Touching the Mouse! Plus load and Speed is reduced by at least a third. And it has been going on since the update in November and another iMac with 10.10.5 still on it isn’t affected by any of this 10.11.2 Behavior or my Mac Book Pro. with 10.9 on it.

Sorry to Rattle on ,just peeves me off!

Thanks

hercules

Did you make a OS X Yosemite USB thumb drive installer? If not, check your App Store/Purchases tab. If OS X Yosemite is in the list and you can download it, then download it and make a USB thumb drive installer (8GB). The download will place it in your Applications folder (Install OS X Yosemite.app). Here's a link on how to create the installer.

I know of no other legit place to download OS X Yosemite. The App Store would be the only place I would trust.

    keg55,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have OS X. Yosemite in my App Folder/Purchases, I ‘ll put it on a thumb and go from there. I should have made a Backup!

First I will have to start dragging everything I want to keep to an external drive as I guess the re-install from the flash will be a Fresh Install and

I will loose it all except the basic’s?

    Thanks Again For Your Help!

    Herc.

You could install Yosemite to another partition on your drive or to an external drive. Then after install and during Setup, you could migrate your user accounts/data and apps from your current El Capitan partition. Run Yosemite and launch your apps (which may require you to put in the product key again) and make sure everything's working OK. Then you can restart into the Yosemite Recovery HD, launch Disk Utility and do a Restore from your Yosemite partition over to your El Capitan partition. Or use a 3rd party cloning software (Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!) to clone your Yosemite partition to your El Capitan.
