Apple Wireless Keyboard won't connect to mac mini

Aluminum apple wireless keyboard won't connect to mac mini. Worked the other day and when pressing the power button it gives me a green light for a few seconds. I removed it from my bluetooth devices and removed the batteries which did nothing. It won't go into discovery mode but it recognizes the keyboard and fails to connect.
