HI my son left his iPhone 5c in his waterproof jacket pocket and my wife washed the jacked on a 40minute cycle - I put it straight in a bag of rice for 24 hrs then took it out and tried to charge but no look it didn't power up so I have put it back into the bag of rice and put it in the airing cupboard and it's still there now - What should I do if anyone can help thanks

Unfortunately iPhone is not waterproof. You are lucky one if it still works after contact with water. Usually phones and water do not mix and water damage is not covered by warranty. Corrosion has already started. You should schedule a genius appointment at the Apple Store to appraise the level of damages. They will offer you the best solution.
my girlfriend dropped hers in a toilet on Sunday.... i put it in a tuppawear box full of rice although i managed this within 10 minutes, full covered the phone so couldn't see it after taking the sim card and holder out, added in a couple silica gel packs on Monday to see if helped.
I left it in unto 7pm last night, and seems to work fine, managed to back up and transfer pictures after waiting a good 10-15minutes for it to come on as was flat battery. I didn't plug into the mains, used macbook to charge it and that wasn't attached to mains either, just to delay a power surge. As far as I'm aware its working fine now.
I think ppl commenting 'its not waterproof' is rather not helpful, i had the same when i commented on Sunday. Think we know its not.
I struggle to find how the genius bar would help, considering its not covered under warranty....
