Q: Restore from backup or start again?

For quite a while, my text arrival noise has been sporadic, sometimes it would make a noise, sometimes it doesn't. Recently if I text someone and they text back, the text will appear in the conversation speech bubbles if I go into the person's text, but I have not had any notification on screen, or sound, or even the little number over the text.

Apple tell me there could be a fault in iTunes, and as I am just about to move to my new iPhone, and rather than restore from old back up, to start from scratch and just install contacts, music, photos etc as a new install.

This would be annoying but doable.

My questions are around text conversation history, scores on games etc, are these all lost, or is there a way of rebuilding them back in without actually doing a "restore from backup"

Any help would be most appreciated

    Hey Piers1,

I understand that you are at a crossroads with either starting your iPhone new or restoring from a backup that was made in either iTunes or iCloud. Let's go over what the backup contains so you can make that decision.

To get your questions out of the way, you conversations would be lost as those are only part of an iTunes or iCloud backup. If you are needing that information, then a restore from a backup would be in order.

Have a look over the article below and it will tell you what items that are backed up in either iCloud or iTunes as they do slightly differ.
