Q: Removing a defunct email associated with Apple ID on my iPad

The email associated with the Apple ID on my iPad is defunct.  I successfully replaced it with a functioning email online and the new Apple ID works for both the iPad and my Mac desktop.  Both devices are recognized. However, the old email still shows up as the Apple ID on the iPad and I continually receive prompts to verify it. How can I make these prompts go away?
