Cannot not open the slider not working

This morning went to open: Pressed button and the indication was to slide so I could enter my code; however, it would not slide. Tried shutting down and icon came up indicating had to slid to shutdown and that would not work. In other words not recognizing attempt to operate by touch.

Sorry to hear that your iPad is not responding to touch. Let's go over what you can do to get that working.
Anytime that you have issues with touch on your iPad, refer to the troubleshooting below. It should take care of everything but in the case that it doesn't, you will want to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Check your touchscreen

Make sure that your hands are clean and dry, then try these steps:

  1. If you have a case or screen protector on your device, try removing it.
  2. Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
  3. Unplug your device.
  4. Restart your device. If you can't restart it, you can force restart your device.

If your touchscreen still doesn't respond like it should, contact Apple Support or take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
