Random imap account appeared on iPhone

Hoping someone can help - a random imap account suddenly appeared on my iPhone recently! It is a minbox.email account and the description is "Who Will You Marry". When I check the account in my mail app, there is a bunch of junk. The account is an email address I do not recognize and there is no option to delete the account or even to delete the settings, i.e. user name, host name, etc. This is quite disturbing. Has anyone heard of this or have any ideas what to do?

FYI, Everyone is saying go to Settings>General>Profiles, I am using an iPhone 6s iOS 10.2.1 (14D27).

There is not a "profiles" under the "general" area. You have to go to Settings>Mail>Accounts. This is where you find all of your Email accounts you have connected to your phone. Delete the one you do not recognize. Its odd that no one picked up on this and kept reposting the wrong instructions. Maybe I missed something? Please correct me if I am wrong. 😮

The ones being reposted: Settings > General > Profiles is correct. That's what you may have missed. They are actually saying that the profile or mailbox cannot be deleted completely when you follow the one you just mentioned which is Settings>Mail>Accounts. So in short, they're not reposting wrong instructions.

Worked for me too. Thanks for the information. Does anyone know if this is dangerous or a security risk?

It's always potentially risky if you install profiles from sources you don't know and have reason to trust. So, be sure to read any notices that appear on your phone before tapping "OK".

I don't ever recall agreeing to install this profile to my iPhone. I was able to delete it though. I am assuming that I picked it up somehow doing one of those game/questionnaires on Facebook. I don't think it had been there more that a week. I will definitely better attention.

They can be very sneaky and we're all conditioned to just tap "OK" without paying as close attention as we should. Miscreants count on that.

I don't think the danger is huge. However, still good to be aware.

Best of luck.

There isn't a delete option there for this stupid thing. I hate these maggots who do this!

It appears now that they have gotten around the delete option mentioned here. Now when I go to settings-general-profiles, I see the offending "app" but it says if I tap on it it will install. Grrrrrrrr!

@GRNBXRE:

Mine is something to do with weather emergency, too. However, I don't remember ever installing it, so that concerns me. I did find a Website of redalerts.org that looks legitimate. It even has a page on how to uninstall the Profile it adds.

I don't understand why it has to install its own mail account, tho...and the account currently has 196 messages in its Inbox from just over a month ago, and they are all spam/advertisements/other unsolicited e-mails. I am not able to find a 'Sent' View...and I'm concerned if it could be sending out messages.

If this was legitimate, I would think the Website would have more information on the Mail account to explain why it is required and how it is used.

If you have found any information to support its legitimacy, I'd be interested if you are willing to share a link to the info! Thanks!!

For now, I think I'm going to delete everything I can find associated with it.

CORRECTION: I found in Settings, for the RedAlerts Emergency mail account, it is using the 'Sent' view/folder on my device. I looked through my Sent and Trash, and did not find any unexpected messages. However, I expect if any messages were sent, they were also deleted immediately and also removed from the Trash.

I found an e-mail address on the redalerts.org site, so I'm sending them a message inquiring. I'll post back what I learn. From what I can tell on their site, when you tap their 'Download' option, it opens a Webpage. Maybe it does more, but since I already have the other pieces, it doesn't have to do anything now. Or...maybe someone is using their domain for unscrupulous activity...possibly unbeknownst to them. Hopefully, I will receive a response from the e-mail I send!

That's right!! Not unbeknownst to them, because they provide a link to 'Uninstall Inbox': http://www.redalerts.org/Content/uninstall

I sent my message to them. I hope they respond and explain the purpose of what they install, how it gets installed (what does a user do/have to do), do they ask permission before installing, etc.

I was suckered into this via a new app called myradar. It prompted me to sign up for emergency alerts. What I thought was an internal alert system tied strictly to the app was not. More than likely it was an ad on the app and I thought it was part of the app itself. Wasn't paying attention the past few days been getting a much higher than normal amount of spam email.

Thank you for posting the solution and for the other, posting the problem! This happened to me earlier this year and I just realized it recently. I, too, was deeply concerned that I couldn’t delete it through accounts. After googling the weird Email ‘Lasaundrawhipped302@my.minbox.email‘ , I came across this. Problem solved, tx so much! I don’t know how this got on my phone.

Mine did not have a delete button in the email heading—that is why I was so concerned! The general/profile/delete worked on mine...maybe it’s different on earlier phones or updates? Either way, hope you got rid of it! Disturbing to have something seemingly undeletable infiltrate like that....

We tried several ways to delete this random map account. The only way we were able to get rid of this account was by erasing the phone. It appears that it came in via Safari when we went to the website with the name of My Mini Box.

We had the same thing show up on my wife's phone, no idea how it got there. Assuming the kids clicked some malicious link. I did find how to delete it, under General settings there was a Profile called Who Will You Marry and I was able to delete it without affecting the phone setup and it also deleted the IMAP account.
