trackpad 2 issue

How do I clear out all bluetooth device history? I added a trackpad 2 to my macbook air (which had a trackpad connected previously) and it shows up as a trackpad in bluetooth settings but doesn't work properly. I noticed that when connecting and disconnecting the trackpad 2 it shows a "mouse" icon on the screen. I change the mouse speed setting and it changes the trackpad 2 speed. I just want to wipe the devices clear and start again. Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)
