Q: Am in deep trouble with data loss. PLEASE help.
New to Macbook Pro, converting all my archives under Mac control (moved away from PC).
Made a HUGE mistake. Please help me with any ideas.
SITUATION
Two 4-TB external drives were mirror of each other (same data on both). Both NTFS.
Connected one to OS X - formatted ("erase") to OS X, and then clicked on ENCRYPT. Monitored it and by the time I realized the disaster it was around 2% encrypted.
Before I realize the disaster, I copied half of my data (forgot entirely a whole folder which is what I'm worried about and IS the disaster) -- to the newly formatted disk.
Then, did the same with Disk 2, and copied from disk 1 to disk 2 and half way I realized. HOLY ****!! I FORGOT TO COPY THAT WHOLE FOLDER (around 160,000 files, 1.3 TB).
I tried reading the disks on a Windows 10 and tried a recovery software -- not that much luck. Good thing I have 2 disks, one is 2% encrypted and the other barely 1% so I'm hoping between the two I can salvage some data.
KEY ISSUE
Makes sense to use Mac recovery software but I'm afraid of connecting the disks to the Mac because of the encryption process which messes with the disk -- I need to keep the disks untouched for recovery purposes. Google didn't help.
I have to go to sleep now but in a few hours I have to do something. Any ideas?
Can I stop the encryption process before it finishes -- I think there's a way but that starts decrying which also messes with the disk.
Do I have any hope for recovery in your opinion?
Many thanks indeed.
