Q: Freezes after log in

My Mac turns on just fine. I enter the password and the status bar goes 1/2 way and then freezes, then shuts down. Apparently it was happening earlier today. I have never encountered this before. I have the most recent OS. Help, please.

G4, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I understand that your Mac will unexpectedly quit when attempting to start. I would suggest going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below for this issue.

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
