Is it harmful to never shut down my MacBook air?

From time to time approximately 3 days out of the week I never really fully shut down my macbook air. I typically just close the lid when i go to sleep which i know only puts the computer to sleep. but i would like to know if it is harmful to my macbook air to never fully shut it down after every use and instead just closing the lid after every use. what are the pros and cons of doing this. Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

As long as it's plugged into power, it doesn't matter. We used to have contests for who had the longest uptime. I don't even use Sleep on my iMac, just Screen Sleep. Your Mac runs its own cleanup programs. These scripts are leftovers from the old days of Unix and were meant for large servers than ran 24/7. But they're still built into the system today.
