When I click on slideshow, a title comes up and the first slide appears along with the music. But it will not advance to the next slide--it twitches at the point when it is about to change slides and comes back to the same slide. I'm using a Macbook pro and OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and IPhoto 9.6.1 This was a problem on my previous Macbook Pro as well and has persisted with this one. Any ideas? David

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Thanks Terence, when I did this, the first slide appeared with a title and the music started. But the slide did not change though it was set for 3 seconds. This time it didn't "twitch" as described previously. Cheers, David
You need to repair the library as follows:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.
