printing photos

When I try to print a photo from Photos, the print setup in photos looks correct, but before printing, it then it switches to the main Mac print routine and changes the orientation of the photo. I can't find any way to get it to print photos as they are shown in the print routine within photos.

Hi RobertC9412,

The instructions for printing from the Photos app are included here for reference. When you choose File > Print, you may notice that the image rotates for certain default settings like "Fit", "Fill" or "8x10." When you choose your printer and then select the Print button, your printer's options will appear. Changing the orientation settings at that point would be specific to the printer model/software. What printer are you working with?

Print your own photos

You can print photos in several standard sizes, or select a custom size. You can also print more than one photo per page using a contact sheet print format. You can print photos in black and white or in color, depending on your printer’s capabilities.

  1. Click Photos in the toolbar, then select one or more photos.

  2. Choose File > Print.

  3. In the print options, select a format from the list on the right.

The preview area on the left shows the look of your printed photos.

With some formats, such as Custom and Contact Sheet, you can use sizing controls to resize the printed photos. Other options, such as for repositioning photos, choosing an aspect ratio, or setting margins, appear depending on the format you chose.

  4. Choose a printer and select any necessary printer settings.

  5. Click Print.

  6. Specify print options in the Print dialog, then click Print.

Take care,

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I select a format in Photos with the paper in a vertical format (portrait) with the photo filling the whole page. Step 5, then brings up the print options and shows the photo in a landscape format instead of portrait, that is the photo is vertical but the paper horizontal. There is nothing as far as I can see that lets me change it. I'm baffled. Its an Epson Stylus Photo PX730 WD.

Thanks very much for taking the trouble to help. Unfortunately, it still does not work. For some reason the second stage shows the paper horizontally and the image vertically. I've tried downloading the latest printer driver but it remains impossible to change the orientation of the image.

The only solution I have found is to export the image to Photoshop and then it is fine, but what a pain. iPhoto used to allow editing in Photoshop but Photos does not. I might abandon Photos and move to Adobe Organise but would rather not.
