Start off by resetting the SMC and NVRAM, as outline in the following support links.

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If it still does not fully startup, startup in Safe Mode as per the following support link.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support
Then if it still does not startup, run the Hardware Test or Diagnostics Test that is designed for your model.

Dec 24, 2015 1:21 AM in response to den.thedby harishtga,I will give all of these a try, i recently started using a windows keyboard (wired) on the mac coz my wireless one had a connection issue, i was trying to reboot into safe mode but seems like it ddnt work, does the mac detect the keyboard right on launch?

Most any USB keyboard should work, my USB Logitech works fine for giving startup commands.
