Q: apple UBS-c cables not working for some devices
Hi,
I recently started having some troubles with my new macbook not recognising external devices on the USB-c port.
I bought the usb-c to usb converted when I bought the laptop this summer and everything was working fine,
more recently I also bought the adaptor with the HDMI port.
Now when I try to use one of these two connectors, they won't pick up on some external devices. They seem to work for my
powered USB HDD, but not for an external usb keyboard, my printer, ... (I'm testing more devices). The HDMI port seems to
work perfectly fine.
With "not recognizing" I mean that the devices do not show in System Report up when I connect them, nor do they generate any
entry in the System Logs (which I look at using Console).
What's strange is that I also have a usb-c to usb converter from Anonda (I got it from kickstarter) that does not seem to have this problem.
Some more info:
I bought the usb-c adaptor with HDMI when I dropped my laptop and the screen was busted. Everything seemed to work fine when using
it then (keyboard, printer, external display). I then carried in my laptop for servicing so they could fix the busted screen, and the problems
started when I got it back from the apple store. I even exchanged the usb-c adaptor with HDMI because I thought that might've been busted,
but the problems remain with the new one.
I think it is a software problem, but can't tell for sure. I just really hate to bring my laptop to the store again, since my exams are coming up and
I need it dearly.
Any tips on how can I troubleshoot this myself?
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.0.x)
