After upgrade to El Capitan I get "The scanner is assigned to ImageCapture. Do you want to use the scanner with TWAIN? What mean?

I have Epson XP-610 and have scanned on it successfully for years. Upgraded, but when tried to open scanner ap I get, The scanner is assigned to ImageCapture. Do you want to use the scanner with TWAIN? Does ImageCapture not work on El Capitan? What is TWAIN, a scanner-printer driver?

thanks.

TWAIN is an old scanner interface. OS X now uses ICA, Image Capture Architecture(?).

Never seen that message, but I assume it means Image Capture is using the scanner, or is set up to use the scanner and there is no need for the third-party scanner software. Did you open Image Capture, or did you open the scanning software bundled with the scanner by Epson?

I opened the Epson scanning software as usual. Have never opened Image Capture. So, I opened it, and see that it is a scanning ap, although basic and doesn't have the options and controls of the Epson program. So, I closed ImageCapture. And then tried to open the Epson scanner ap again, got same warning on w/n I wanted to assign scanner to TWAIN. one box was Yes; other blank. I guessed that blank was no, and clicked on it. Epson scanner ap opened, and worked ok, except that the key block on every page, eg, scan, save, is blank each time. Fortunately I am familiar enough with the program that I know what used to be in the blank box.

But it's working, and as long as my memory does too, that I should be OK. Thanks for help.
