netgear

Hello to anyone and Merry Christmas.

I have a network at home with a Netgear WNDR3700 as a main router and a Linksys WRT53G connected with an Ethernet cable and used as a bridge to extend network. The Netgear is responsible for give IP Address to all devices while the Linksys is a Point of Access to extend signal. They both have the same SSID. I have done this because I have a two floor concrete house and there are places where I don't have sognals in the second floor. That is why I investigated in the internet how is the best way to connect the two routers to share signal over the house. In addition I have a DVR for a CCTV.

A week ago I bought and Apple Airport Extreme and the difference in the signal between Airport Extreme and the other two routers are huge. With the Airport Extrema I have signal in places I didn't have before.

I have decided to have the Airport Extreme as the main wifi router in the house and use the others two as a signal extender.

At home we have 14 apple devices including 4 computers, 3 ipads, 2 apple tvs and 5 iphone.

I'd like to know the best way to configuremy network with my new airport extreme to have a better signal and performance and also share information over the network. Can anyone assist me in what are the best practices to do this?.

AE can substitute for the main router.. no issues there as long as you use standard broadband like cable. If you use fibre or adsl it can be a bit tricky if you need PPPOE. We have to know a bit more to be really helpful.

What is the main modem?? Make and model??

The Netgear and Linksys can both be used in roaming network.

For the Netgear you will use wan bypass to use it as WAP (unless you want to load a third party firmware). Please just google wan bypass router setup.. If I give the link the post is rejected. Don't have time now to give full details.

The Linksys model doesn't ring a bell.. did you mean WRT54G?? can be used basically as is.. you are using ethernet to connect and then setup the wireless routers in AP mode.
