How to pair with a keyboard or laptop

How do you pair apple tv 4th generation with any type of device that has a keyboard, like a laptop, or wireless keyboard, so I don't have to use the remote to type anything?

I'm afraid you can't. Currently the only alternative to the built in 'keyboard' is the iOS app.

But we can't even get an IOS device to pair with it in order to use a more sensible 'keyboard'.

Apple definitely gets an 'F' for ease of set up on this one.

The iOS app should work - make sure you have the latest version.
