Dec 25, 2015 7:21 AM in response to parwinderby Linc Davis,Please launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.

Dec 25, 2015 5:27 PM in response to parwinderby Linc Davis,If the problem only started today, it may be caused by overloading of Apple's servers due to the opening of Christmas gifts. I suggest you try again tomorrow.

Dec 27, 2015 8:10 PM in response to Linc Davisby MJ,I have the same problem. I have attempted the Yosemite to El Capitan upgrade twice on this machine (a quad core i7 late 2009 iMac) and after what looks like a "normal" upgrade, the resulting El Capitan system cannit access the Mac App Store or utilize any iCloud services. Using System Preferences to manual (re-) login to iCloud yields the error "There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server." Trying to connect via the App Store app fails as well.
I have successfully upgraded another machine, but the upgrade of this iMac has failed twice now. (I've rolled back to Yosemitie twice using Time Machine.) I work in the IT field and I am pretty competetant and have been using and upgrading Macs for decades. This situation has me stumped.
A side effect is that the El Capitan system uses Crazy-high CPU cycles for processes like ( excuse misspellings, this is from memory...):
IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
CalendarAgent
com.apple.html.converter
Like 100% CPU usage each on this multicore iMac. Fans are maxxed out and howling as soon as the upgrade to El Capitan is complete.
Is this older iMac just not capable of running El Capitan? That seems strange since it is still pretty powerful being an i7.
I have read a number of others threads that recommed deleting various files and folders and restarting but nothing has worked.
I don't think high Christmas loads on the servers is a factor since my first failure was around Dec 18 and the second was today, Dec 27.

Dec 29, 2015 4:12 PM in response to Linc Davisby parwinder,I don't think it was high load during Christmas. This has been happening since beginning of December. I did install Avast antivirus around that time. I have uninstalled it now and I have also disabled firewall.
