USB SuperDrive

I bought a brand-new Apple USB SuperDrive two days ago.

  • My Mac Book OS 10.6.8 doesn't recognize this external drive at all.
  • TV doesn't recognize this external drive at all.
  • iMac OS 10.9.5 recognize this drive if it's connected directly to the Mac (not via USB hub), but DVD player doesn't work and VLC gives failure: "File reading failed"

I would appreciate your advise/help ASAP. Thanks!

Compatible with the following computers:

MacBook Pro with Retina display

MacBook Air

iMac (late 2012) and later

Mac mini (late 2009) and later

Mac Pro (late 2013)

And besides being not compatible it's incredibly overpriced. A $30 LG drive does everything the Apple drive does but it doesn't have a cute little Apple logo on it.

Thanks Mike, I were already afraid about this answer, but it seems you're right. I'll return it ASAP.

BTW, I especially chose for this DVD drive to avoid connection & operational probs. But the really shame for Apple is the limited use of this device isn't mentioned on the website, nor at the package let alone in the instruction manual.

Thanks again for useful advise!
