Sound not working when connected to hdmi

Hello,

I have setup my macbook in a docking station, and now my audio is not working. I have my mac connected via hdmi and I am trying to get sound out of the headphone port.


I have tried these already:


  • Restarting the computer
  • Killing 'coreaudiod'
  • Pressing the option key and changing to 'Digital Out'


I know that my headphones are definitely plugged in but it doesn't look like they're being recognised.


Why is this happening?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. In most cases, audio is passed along with the video signal in HDMI. To see if it is possible to change the audio output to your analog headphone jack (not the digital out, which would be different), you may want to see if it can be selected in either the Sound preference pane or in Audio MIDI Setup, as noted in the following articles (apologies if you have already tried this):
