can not find backup when trying to restore

I am trying to backup my ipod touch so I can restore it to my new ipod touch. After backing it up to icloud, I go to restore it on my new ipod touch but it does not list my backup. I did notice that I had some problems backing up. I had to try several times because it would take a long time or I would get a message saying unable to back up.
