Q: Disney Infinity 3.0 bluetooth base not pairing on AppleTV

I have the new 2015 AppleTV and the Disney Infinity 3.0 starter edition which I ordered through the Apple Store some weeks ago.  The box indicates that it's the bluetooth version of the Infinity Base and lists Apple device compatibility.  The OS is updated to tvOS 9.1 and Disney Infinity 3.0 is installed, we have been able to play one of the starter levels (Battle of Yavin).  But there's no sign anywhere of the AppleTV being able to communicate with the Infinity Base, even after a few iterations of cycling power on the base and restarting the AppleTV.

Is there some indication of pairing or communication that should be apparent outside of the game?  In the Bluetooth setup panel in system preferences, I'm able to see the controller that comes with the game starter pack and it pairs and works.  But, no sign anywhere of the Infinity Base, which is powered up, nearby, and blinking its little blue light.

What steps should I take to figure out which piece is broken, the Base, the AppleTV, or something in the software ?

(one notable oddity, when I hold my phone close to the Infinity Base to try and take a picture, the Apple Pay response screen pops up!  Is there an NFC chip in the Base?)

curious,

Rob

I am having the same issue with the same hardware. As far as I can tell, the base will not show in tvOS bluetooth menu. Our base finally showed up after power cycling a few times and butting the base right up against or on top of our Apple TV. Then, inside the Disney Infinity app, our base shows up with full signal strength but we cannot select it to play with our figures. We can only play the digital edition while the base simply flashes blue on the power disc space. Very disappointing.

IF anyone knows of a fix, let us know! Disney's site has nothing on this issue at this time. Thanks!

Hi, I had this same problem on Christmas day with the Skylander Superchargers starter kit, which includes a power base and hand controller, both bluetooth connect, and a Nimbus handset as found in the Disney kit (bought to allow 2nd son to play as well).

Spent about an hour trying all sorts of combinations to get it to work :

    • Skylanders base and handset refuse to pair via ATV4 menu. Start the game and they suddenly pair up and work (flashing red lights go solid, and can be used on screen to load characters/vehicles). They then disconnect either on hitting power saving timeout of 2 mins for base, or when exiting game with handset. Handset is unusable for other games, will not pair, appears to be game specific. Batteries in base ran out after 24 hours of being opened (they were Duracells as well!). Power base had to be placed within a metre of the ATV4 initially.
    • Nimbus is discoverable to the ATV4 and can be used with all games, appears in Settings menu as paired. Nice handset, charges quickly via lightning connector.
    • Yes, these are NFC technology devices.

i'm not sure if this will help at all but I found that you should not try to pair the base station with the Apple TV itself (But do pair the Nimbus).

Simply connect it to a power supply and then go into the game. If your nimbus is paired use the A button on that to go into the game. If your setup is like mine it should then find the base station and you should have an option to connect to from within the game.

    Hope that helps

I was playing fine with the Disney Infinity base and the Nimbus controller - and then this morning it wouldn't connect to the base. I kept getting the "please plug in the base" message. The base was blinking blue instead of being a solid color. After restarting the Apple TV, force quitting and restarting the game several times, I went into wi-fi settings and "forgot" my network. Then I reconnected to the wi-fi network and restarted the game. I got the same stupid message about the base... But I kept hitting the "A" button out of frustration, and it connected after about 8-10 presses. So... I don't know which of my steps worked, but I'm playing right now. Haha

You don't pair the infinity base directly to the apple TV it won' see it. You install the infinity app and launch it, it will then find the Bluetooth base and connect within the game.

What I don't like is that when your not using the game the base never stops blinking. You have to unplug it (which is hard when it's behind the TV)

Seriously thank you!  I had tried everything but followed your suggestion of just hammering the A button and it worked!

Seriously... what a piece of crap.

    I have the same problems.

    1. The instructions clearly say to pair the base with ATV.... it never shows up however when bluetooth searches for it, however.

    2. After reading this, I hammered away at the A button and it connected.

    3. But then when you are done... the base flashes blue forever as if it is in pairing mode.... so you need to decide to unplug it or leave it flashing... I'm leaving it flashing since the power is behind a mounted TV.

    4. Is it me or do you have to watch the Intro EVERYTIME it comes on.

    Any others have these issues?

Wow... this this is only half baked.

    Thanks!

    Hello Tigervision:

    1) Yes, the ATV4 never, but NEVER shows up that is paired with the Disney Infinity Base...

    2) Yes, to hit the A button works, but i know, is annoying and should not be the way to fix a thing so expensive like this.

    3) Yes, the blue flash never stops flashing, even with the ATV4 and TV off. (at night when everything is dark is really annoying, the light comes to my bedroom from living room).

    4) Sometimes the game just skip that boring intro, but just a few times, I dont really know what I have to do for skipping that intro, is really annoying.

in my opinion, the game itself is so short, you can finish the set the force awakens in a evening, Im really regret of have bought the Disney Inifinity 3.0, (actually now is in my living room as a decoration set with the action figures).

    It doesnt worth it...

    Thanks Sebastian...

So sounds like we are in same boat... can't 'pair' the base and blue light just keeps flashing...

    Anyone else in same boat?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Actually when you have the DI Base paired on your APT4, the APT4 never shows it as "paired" on its settings, like showing the nimbus controller or whatever device.

    Thanks,
