Q: Disk utility doesn't give option to repair hd disk

I went into the disk utility to verify and repair the HD and permissions, I was able to verify and repair the permissions but only able to verify the HD because the repair option was grayed out. I'm doing this to get rid of the 32 GB's of "Other" data that is filling the laptop. If there is any other way to get rid of or reduce the "Other" yellow section that would help so much.
