Q: Family Sharing Approval on Single Device

Hello,

If I bought my daughter an iPad mini, and I don't own my own iOS device, but I have an Apple ID, how do I approve her purchase requests? When I'm logged on with her iCloud account to the iPad, and attempt to buy Minecraft, I receive the typical prompts that indicate a request was sent to the parent to approve the purchase. However, I don't see anything on the device indicating a request is awaiting approval. I checked under Notifications but there was nothing. I was hoping it would show up in my e-mail but nothing there either. Do I actually have to own more than one iOS device in order to allow my daughter to request purchases for approval? Do I need to logout of her iCloud account and logon with my Apple ID in order to approve? Every time I try to logout I get a half dozen prompts asking if it's ok to turn off this, that and the other thing. I don't want to turn anything off...I just want to logout. So far, not too impressed with the iOS ecosystem as it relates to family/child accounts. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

The whole premise of iOS Family Sharing is that there is a family. Each with an iOS/OSX device on which two share stuff with. It is not managed from an iCloud account. The turning things off and on prompter are when you switch Apple IDs for iCloud.

One adult in the family—the family organizer—can set up Family Sharing for the group from their iOS device or Mac. When you set up Family Sharing, you'll be asked to confirm that you agree to pay for purchases initiated by the family members you invite and that you have a valid payment method on file. Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards.*

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. I think this confirms my understanding that a single child cannot have a device of their own in which a parent manages purchases unless that parent also has an Apple device. I'll try to find a workaround.
