Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If I understand correctly, the iMessages that you're sending to your wife aren't appearing on her iPhone but they are appearing on her iPad. If you haven't already, make sure iMessage is enabled on your wife's iPhone as shown here:

Go to Settings > Messages. Check that the type of message that you're trying to send is turned on (iMessage, SMS, MMS, or Group messaging):
