how do I set up family share if I don't wish to use a credit card?

I would like to set up family share, but when I start the process to add my son, I am required to change my payment type to a credit card. I currently use a debit card. I do not wish to use a credit card for iTune purchases. Is there a way to set up the family share using debit?

Not to add a child account, you have to put a credit card on due to child online protection laws - you should be able to change back to the debit card after creating his account

Family Sharing and Apple ID for your child - Apple Support :

Before you begin, make sure that you're using a credit card or UnionPay as your iTunes Store and App Store payment method. To comply with child online privacy protection laws, you will use the CVV, verification code sent via SMS, or security code from a valid payment method as part of providing your parental consent. If the card on file is a debit card or another payment method, you’ll be asked to provide a valid payment method before you can continue. After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change your payment method.
