Apple TV Audio, how to get both Bluetooth and HDMI Audio simultaneously...

Firstly: I am impressed with Apple TV4, Santa finally delivered ours...
Watched our first movie, OddDog, and Australian production shot on the rugged south coast.
Found by Siri, virtually an instantaneous response; magic really.
I can highly recommend it, for a light hearted but serious "real story"...


Secondly: my very real problem...
Santa also gave my wife a pair of Bose Bluetooth SoundLink around ear headphones II.
Brilliant, Bose paring to multiple devices is really easy, with cute inbuilt voice prompts to guide the user, on earphone controls for volume and pause/play functions.
But to my dismay, I cannot find a way to have audio from Apple TV4 on the Bose headphones AND my Sony TV at the same time.

The purpose of the Bose Headphones was to allow my wife to listen at her preferred volume, while the rest of us in the room listen to the Sony TV


Anyone know what I am doing wrong.
Apple TV4 Settings lists the option of either "Bose Headphones" or "Apple TV" as the Audio output, not both?

This is so, even though HDMI could still be delivering audio video to my Sony TV.

Alternatively, can Apple TV4 deliver Bluetooth audio to two Bluetooth headphones simultaneously?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Airport Extreme, LinkSys NAS200, RDC to Sony PCG XE17

Thank you for your responses, very much appreciated.

After more head scratching, I have zeroed in on the Coredy BT01-aptX Bluetooth Audio Transmitter.


My Sony Bravia TV does have a setting that allows simultaneous 3mm Audio out and TV Speakers, so hopefully I will be able to achieve what we want to do.


Am having trouble sourcing the Coredy BT01-aptX Bluetooth Transmitter right now; Amazon was the only retailer I could find, they had stock, but refused to ship to Australia.

I found an online retailer in Australia, but his markup if 500%.

And strangely, Coredy do not offer product directly to the public online.

I will keep hunting.

And when I do get sorted, I will certainly let you, and the many Sony TV Users who are as frustrated as I am, know about this solution.

Fancy building a multi $1,000 TV range, advertising Bluetooth capability, reneging on the basic functionality of Bluetooth headphones for private late night viewing.

That's correct. selecting bluetooth audio sends all audio to bluetooth destination rather than the HDMI Destination. You can do one or the other but not both At the same time. To accomplish what your speaking, you would need the headphones hooked up to your tv/receiver. But even then I am not sure if audio is sent to BOTH sources. For example, when watching tv if I plug headphones into the jack on the tv it sends all the audio over the headphones instead of the speakers. Maybe there are receivers that provide for the dual output?

An update...

I continued to dig, and found a better devices: Brightech DoublePlay HD Bluetooth 4.0 Transmitter-Splitter.

I have one on order, top specifications, and as a bonus, splits into two BlueTooth channels from the one Audio input simultaneously .


So my Wife can connect to one channel, using her Bose Over Ear Headset (which has built in volume controls), and I have the option of listening to the TV Audio speakers, or use a second head set.


My Sony TV settings does permit me to send audio to the speakers, and to the 3.5mm audio output simultaneously.

I have a low spec USB Bluetooth audio transmitter connected at the moment, and there is an annoying but tiny delay, perceptible in speech.

I believe the specification of the Brightech (and Coredy) transmitter eliminates this delay.

Heres hoping.

I'm curious if your solution above proved to be successful. Are you able to Bluetooth to headphones as well as listen through the TV at same time. I'm not sure if my TV has the settings you mentioned above. Not that tech savvy. I just replace our old Apple TV that could not Bluetooth to the newer one that could. My husband is hard of hearing so he always wears headphones (wireless) on HDMI 1, but they would not work through the Apple TV on HDMI 2. Thought this was the solution for Apple TV on HDMI 2, but right now if we Bluetooth to headphones through the Apple TV, I cannot hear TV at all
