ipod nano 4th gen works only when plugged in

Ive had my ipod nano 4th gen for a while now, more than 5 years, and it hasnt been charged in a long time and i found it and decided to plug it in and charge it and when i do it turns on and shows the screen that its charging, the only problem is that the only way i can use it is if its plugged in, and as soon as its unplugged it dies. how can i fix this?

The most likely reason is the battery. Lithium batteries can lose the ability to hold a charge, if it is left in a completely drained state for a long time. Although this model may not be supported for repairs by Apple, if you do an Internet search for independent repair businesses in your area with Apple expertise, you may find one to replace the battery. (Since it is out of warranty repair, the technician does not need to be "Apple-certified.")
