Can I use a t-shaped charger to replace my L-shaped macbook charger?

Last summer I bought a MacBook Pro (mid 2012 model, I believe). It came with the L shaped charger, which now works very poorly and needs replacing. Can I use a T-shaped charger of the same wattage? I really don't want to spend £65 on a product that has such poor reviews. Incidentally, what are people's views on buying slightly cheaper chargers off of Amazon and similar sites? Would like to save some money, but don't want to risk damaging my laptop!

Just make sure they are both Magsafe1 (be aware do not accidentally get a Magsafe2), it will be ok to work regardless the shape of plug, you only need to make sure the wattage on the replacement charger is same or larger compare to the original charger(yes, larger wattage will be fine to use as the apple support page says).

Do not buy an non-apple charger.

If you have both with you: try the T shaped charger: when it fits the charging port, and the charging light comes on, it is OK. But most of the time the connector does not fit. There is no risk of damage unless you force the connector into a non fitting connector port.

Thanks for the advice. Think I'll pop into one of the Mac specialist shops in town and see if I can check the chargers
