Well I now have an Apple TV 4, and I have signed up for Apple Music, but can I use the latter on my ATV 4?

    Yes.

My Music (on Apple TV 4) includes any Apple Music content you added, plus iTunes purchases and the music you make available through iTunes Match. http://help.apple.com/appletv/#/atvb9ed3ea39

My ATV4 always shows fewer songs in a specific playlist than I see when looking at it in iTunes or iphone/iPad. Sometimes it plays a different version of a song than one I had on the playlist, example: a rerecorded version or occasionally a studio version instead of a live cut. Any idea what's going on?  I subscribe to Apple Music and iTunes Match.

Apple's matching system isn't perfect. A common complaint is clean versions replacing explicit ones. As long as your original library is intact and backed up you can play directly from it rather than matched versions. I don't know enough about how playlists are transferred to ATV4, and I've only just subscribed to iTunes Match. I didn't really get on with Apple Music, messed up all the artwork on my iPhone. So far I'm using a very small subset of my purchases to test iTunes Match with.

What's driving me nuts is the problem just seems to be with ATV4. My playlists are identical on my iPhone, iPad, and itunes. They're a total mess on the ATV4.

You mentioned not having to use iTunes Match if everything is backed up. I've got everything in iCloud to my knowledge but when I turn iTunes Match off  the ATV4 I lose all access to playlists.   Is there a way to access your music without using match?

If your Apple TV and computer are on the same network you can run iTunes on the computer and access the library using home sharing. This means you'll be playing the original versions of your files rather than streaming matched versions from the iTunes store.

The backup comment is really a plea not to consider iTunes Match as a way of backing up your library. As you have seen you don't necessarily get out what you put in.

Oddly I tried to do this last night. It's only playing Apple Music tracks and none of the music I've ripped. Can't figure out why.

Are you going in through the Computers app on the Apple TV?

Got it working. The hard drive had frozen up which explained why it only was playing music from Apple Music. Now it's playing everything perfectly.  This is an excellent workaround until Apple fixes this. Thank you for your help!

Hi David. Read this and I'm having the same issue where certain songs/music videos are not syncing identically to the Apple TV. How did you get it to sync correctly? I have the latest Apple TV with the latest software update.

Going through "Computers", I can see all my songs/music videos, except what I downloaded through Apple Music, which is odd. If I go through "My Music" random songs/music videos are not showing up, even items I've purchased through iTunes. I cannot figure this out. What's strange, on my iPad and iPhone, everything is perfectly synced to my iTunes on my iMac.

I'm hoping this will get solved with the next update. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Alex

I haven't even tried going through computers I don't think. I'm going through the Apple TV remote app on my phone and instead of selecting the Apple TV, I'm selecting itunes on my desktop computer. That is allowing me to play all the songs.

Ok, thanks anyways. It's just too bad because there's a lot of playlists that I created, and apple TV won't pick up every song. I'm hoping Apple fixes this issue. Thanks again.
