the ATV will need an HDMI port in the tv (not direct tv box). For example, my tv has 5 HDMI input - HDMI 1 is direct tv, hdmi2 is ATV, hdmi3 is blueray. So depending on what source I want to watch i change the TV input accordingly...
Hi, thanks for the reply. I bought a switch and I have my direct tv box hooked into 1 port and the Apple tv into the other. Direct tv works, Apple tv does not. When I cross over manually it does not work. The Apple works only if I connect it directly to the tv and bypass the switch and direct tv box but I have no sound. When I hook it back up to the switch, only thr direct tv works. I have exchanged the cables on the switch ports, made no difference. Thank you
Tony
I don't know what is causing this - as it happens I have the same model switch connecting an Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV and a Roku 1 to the input of an Oppo Blu-Ray player which then passes it on to the television. It works perfectly well, though occasionally I have to manually select away from the input then back, using the switch's remote, to get it to pass the signal through, though this mostly happens with the Fire TV - the ATV has been OK. The other device may be producing a constant output, as the ATV does, preventing the switch from switching automatically, so you could try using the remote to switch manually.
I don't have that same brand of switch but it is of the same type. Even when I switch manually it does not work unless I hook up direct to the tv and bypass the switch, got me crazy.
