Dec 26, 2015 11:32 AM in response to tandadarby rajac,I ran into this problem during this thanksgiving. Researched a lot and found two simple things
1) Apple Software Update version was very old like 2011 v2.1.xx etc. This was primary cause of pain. Somehow iTunes software updates have left this component (which really looks for newer components itself) left it untouched.
2) In order to uninstall this one component I had to uninstall iTunes. Again that will also fail so Microsoft to rescue. Downloaded uninstall FixIt program here and booom iTunes uninstalled. All iphone backups/songs/video libraries untouched. Installed the new iTunes and things came up fine as before. I wud suggest jst in case do back up all the media/libraries under iTunes folder on external drive or NAS drive, before uninstalling.
