How can I get the netflix app to play from ipad mini to a vga monitor?

I purchased an LG 22M37D-B monitor for my daughter to use with her iPad mini.

We are using the Lighting to VGA connector to attach it to the monitor.

It works for the apps we have used so far like Safari, pages, youtube...

When we use the Netflix app which is the main reason I bought the monitor. The app works until we try to play a video at that point the iPad mini screen says "now playing on your TV" but once that happens the monitor goes blank.

We chatted with Netflix but they say they cannot help.
