Nikon not compatible with El Capitan

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with this..

I have a Nikon D3200. I just got a new Macbook Air with El Capitan, and it I've had nothing but issues trying to use both together.

I couldn't install View NX2, which after a bit of research I found out is a common issue with El Capitan. I've found links on other threads that led me to downloading View NX-i, and another link to download View NX2. It appears that View NX2 is installed now, however when I connect my Nikon, it's not recognized. In fact, I have another point and shoot Nikon camera and it doesn't seem to recognize that either. Problem is, I can't even use Photos as an importer on my Macbook Air because my camera just isn't being recognized at all.

Side note: I've connected my D3200 to my old Macbook that runs on Yosemite. View NX2 and Photos seem to work well with importing pictures. They both open when the camera is connected. But I don't have enough space on that laptop to import the pictures anyway..

On another thread related to this issue, the user talked about using Image Capture to import the photos. BUT my camera isn't being recognized by Image Capture either....

I'm not sure of this is a Nikon issue, or an iOS issue with El Capitan's compatibility - I plan on contacting Nikon too.

Thanks!

I also have a D3200 and it can connect with the latest versions of NX-i, Apple's Image Capture (found in Applications),

Photos (I disabled this), and Adobe Lightroom. with the exception of Photos, they don't open automatically. This is

with 10.11.2 on a late 2013 27" iMac and an early 2011 13" Macbook Pro.

Check this, plug in the camera and then turn it on. Then on the Apple menu click on About This Mac...

Then click the System Report button. On the left side of the report box, expand Hardware (if it isn't already)

and select USB. You should see somewhere under the device tree "NIKON DSC D3200".

If not, there may be some odd hardware issue.

This is what I get with Image Capture (nothing in camera when I did this):

With Nikon Transfer 2 that came with NX-i:

So, connections do work, just need to figure out why it doesn't on your Macbook Air.

NX2 is borked and will likely never get fixed since it is replaced by NX-i.

You may also need to remove all Nikon software and re-install NX-i.

Also check firmware version on the camera. Mine are listed as C -> 1.04 and L ->2.009.
