DVDs --> iPod?

Is there a way to get shows/movies that I have on DVD into my iTunes and onto my iPod? My friend told me there was a software you could buy...

You don't have to buy any software, as there is freeware available. I use Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/). It will rip the DVD and save it as an MP4. Then all you have to do is import the movie or drag it into iTunes and next time you sync yoru iPod, you will be ready to go. For a good tutorial on using Handbrake use this link: http://howto.diveintomark.org/ipod-dvd-ripping-guide/.

What's the difference if you pay for something that you put on a shared computer, or not pay for it? As long as it is legitimate, harmless software? If there's a policy about putting unauthorized software on a shared computer, does that change if you pay money? It would seem to me that the important thing is to get permission from the proper folks, regardless of whether or not something is free.

Hi i want to share my experience with you, you need to convert your dvd or video to the correct format first, ipod only support h264 and mpeg4 encoded format, i am using cucucsoft ipod suite, it works good for me, it can not only directly convert dvds to mp4, but also can convert avi, wmv,asf, xvid, rm, rmvb etc to mp4, it's easy and fast to use, highly recommended if you are looking for such a converter, i get it from http://www.ipodtechies.com/viewtopic.php?p=49#49
, cucucsoft is the best for windows and handbrake is for mac

I know I need to convert it, which is why I use streamclip. It does the job, but when I merge my files, streamclip wont read em anymore.
I wish I could use what you recommend, but I'm looking for something free and fast. I need to leave for 9 months, in two days, and I have to rip my dvds super fast. Such a dilemma.
DVDfab still = no subtitles. Still a problem. Anyone have any more ideas 🙂
Thanks for your help.
