I deleted an album from my iphone assuming it would still be in my music on my computer in itunes. It no longer appears in my music and I have followed instructions found on various sites for "down loading previous purchases from the itunes store", including Apple, with no luck. The album is still available for purchase in itunes.

If it's not showing in the Purchased section for redownloading (and assuming that it's the same version of the album that you bought that's still in the store and you haven't moved countries) then check to see if you've hidden it from the cloud : Hide and unhide purchases in iTunes or iBooks on your Mac or PC - Apple Support
Thank you, your advice worked. When I selected "unhide", the album (plus 2 others) appeared in "Purchased" and "Albums".
