Connecting 2 Macs with USB to Thunderbolt

I am migrating to a new mac and I see i can use a thunderbolt cable instead of a patch cable. Cool.

I have USB to thunderbolt cables and one is an extension. Can I plug a normal one in and create a cable with 2 thunderbolt connectors on each end, and my main question is will it travel at USB speed or thunderbolt speeds, or should I just go buy a thunderbolt cable?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all...

You cannot connect two Macs together via USB period. USB is a master-slave protocol.

Macs are masters and two masters cannot connect together. Any USB adapter turns

any connection into USB.

Your options are connect the two together via an ethernet cable to do the migration,

via a Thunderbolt cable, or via a Time Machine backup from the source Mac.
