Q: airplay not working after upgrade to el capitan - currently 10.11.2?

After upgrade to el capitan (10.11.2) on macbook pro airplay has stopped working. I click on airplay and it says it is currently off with no option to click it back on.

Similarly, when I try to back up with Lacie rugged usb 3.0 firewire 800 it takes a very loooong time.

To ameliorate this, I have removed the Sophos anti virus software I had installed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

    Hi artob2,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your Mac is not able to AirPlay as you would expect after updating to El Capitan. I know situations that arise after an update can be frustrating, but we are here to help!

To begin troubleshooting this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the information in the following article, specifically the section titled Get help

Use AirPlay to display video from your Mac on an HDTV - Apple Support

    Hi Joe,

    thanks for the reply.

I'm not seeking to buy an HDTV.

I used airplay for an airport express going into my sound system.

    Can this function be recovered?

Also my second question was since El Capitan using my back up disc has taken an excessively long time.

Can you provide solutions to these two problems?

    many thanks,

    artob2

Actually I've just found the solution to the first:

    Finder-Applications-Utilities-Airport utility.

It needed to recognise the airport.

But an answer to the second (back up to lacie very slow?) would be great.

    thanks,
