I made a successful encrypted backup of a 5s today in iTunes. Afterwards, I bought a new 6s at the local Apple Store with their trade-in option & followed the steps to restore from an itunes backup, including updating the iOS & then resetting the phone. The backup won't restore "because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored." I don't understand what I did wrong. I just want my data back. Can anyone help me troubleshoot?

Any chance that you have also used iCloud to backup some of your data? Or do have any other backups listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices that you can choose?

In case iCloud still has some data, try to restore from those backups. If iTunes still has some backups listed, try to use those. But remember, that all data and settings will be also set back to that point in time when the backup had been taken.

If there are no other backups available, you'll have to start from the scratch again, sorry. Contact info might still be part of the address book on your computer and can be synced back again, using iTunes.
