Q: activate health app iPhone 4s

How do I activate the Health App on an iPhone 4S?

My OS is 9.2

I have already updated my medical ID.

But while walking it doesn't register any distance. How do I solve this?

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

The link below says, To use the Steps feature, you'll need an iPhone 5s or later.

I guess the function requires the motion co-processer on iPhone.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it was not helpful.

Looking more into it. I am missing in Settings / Privacy / "Motion & Fitness". With this some one can activate the Health App on for example an iPhone 6S or 6 Plus. This iPhone 4S misses the feature "Motion & Fitness". So my question arises: how does the iPhone 4S gets the feature "Motion & Fitness" or if this is not applicable: how do I activate the Health App within the iPhone 4S?

Just below the category list in "Privacy" setting, there is a note saying, "As Application request access to your data, they will be added in the categories above."

I read it as, "Motion & Fitness" in Privacy setting will not show up if the related data does not exist.

iPhone 5S and later, including  6 and 6s, have motion co-proceser and can record motion data by itself, so "Motion & Fitness" is added on the "Privacy" as "Health" app requested the data.

For 4S, which has no motion coprocessor and cannot get such data by itself, I'm not sure what device can be used to record motion/activity data on it.

    # I thought about Apple Watch, but which requires iPhone 5 or later. ( Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support )

Again thank you for your reply and patience.

I wonder why the Apple employee in the Apple Store installed this Health App on the iPhone 4S as it is not able to record any distance movements. I would imagine that it would work on GPS like any other Fitness App.

Unfortunately I am too many miles away from an Apple store to ask it. But I can't find here or anywhere else how to activate the Health App including the recording of distance. With an iPhone 5 or newer there is the feature to activate the app through "Motion & Fitness" in Settings / Privacy. But this feature is missing in the iPhone 4S.

I can't imagine the Health App doesn't work on an iPhone 4S.

    Awaiting any suggestions

In order for the Health app to record steps, it needs to be able to access a Motion Coprocessor chip. The iPhone 4S does not have one of those. You can get a fitness tracking device that syncs to Health such as a Misfit Shine and track your steps.

The Apple employee at the Apple Store did not install the Health app on your phone. It is part of the operating system.
