Q: 1st Generation iPod Touch (8GB) Error Message

I have an old iPod Touch 1st Generation (A1213) that when I try to connect to iTunes generates the following message.

"iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch “iPod” because an invalid response was received from the device."

I am reluctant to download third party apps, as I don't want to interfere with my other iPad(s), iPhone and iPods.

Yes, the cables are plugged in.  I'm connected to an iMac running OS 10.11.2.  My iTunes is 12.3.2.35

Any suggestions? Thanks.

OBS iPod touch, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Check your USB connections

    Errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014. You might also see a message that includes "invalid response."

If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you might not be able to update or restore.

To narrow down the issue, try different equipment:

If you still see the error message, check for hardware issues.
