At least once a day for the last year or more, iOS on my iPhone (currently a 6, as of yesterday running iOS 9.2) asks me to "sign in to iCloud". The ID offered is an email address that died of spam a couple years ago and no longer exists at all.
I've never used iCloud, so I wouldn't care that much...except that some part of Apple still thinks I'm someone I no longer am, nor can become again even temporarily. So I can't use the method offered here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667 or here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203828
Is there another way to tell iOS that it has an Apple ID that is no longer in service, and can't be pressed BACK INTO service?
